In ‘Éclats’, Séroux's new exhibition at Fred Lanzenberg in Brussels, his sanguine inks and watercolours on paper explore the intimacy of trembling, pleasure, screaming, ecstasy and the fear of perdition through paroxysmal expressions.
The loss of control, the bewilderment, the vertigo of the abyss, the orgasm as a place of self-recognition are all at work when everything shatters, opening up to something beyond comprehension.
Shattering
By using inks on paper, chance invites itself and plays elbows, derailing the image. And through a series of drawings, it's the impossibility of expressing things in a univocal way that is at stake, so plural and elusive is the experience of life. Here, allowing ourselves to be won over by disorder means having the desire to face up to what leaves something to be desired. Indefinitely.
